Corporal Väisänen destroyed 8 enemy tanks during one attack in Ihantala 1944, but went missing during the same evening. He was posthumously awarded the Mannerheim Cross. Private Seppänen was awarded the Mannerheim Cross for taking out several enemy tanks with new Panzerschreck (with minimum training, literally only reading the German language instructions on the weapon) in the battle of Siiranmäki, June 1944. Anti-tank gunner Ilomäki received the Mannerheim Cross for his actions. He is the only Finnish soldier to earn all stripes of the special tank destroyer badge. Illustration portrays him with his 75 K/40 -anti tank gun, which he used in summer 1944. His loader was named Kalle Rask. |
