Artist's Comments

charcoal 2007,
A Finnish soldier having a meal, Winter War 1939-40.

Based on a photograph. If it wasn't, and the idea was all mine, I'd consider this to be the best drawing I've ever done... I think I just fell in love with charcoal.

Beautiful pencil work. I can feel his cold and weariness.

If you don't mind sharing: was a reference used? An excellent work nonetheless, but I would be floored if you did this without a reference.

Haha. I almost always read the artist's comments, and the one time that I neglect to, I make a fool of myself! Not only in my asking about the photograph, but also in my referring to "pencil work," but I guess I can dishonestly reclaim my honour through the technicality that they indeed make "charcoal pencils." Or perhaps that I going too far. haha.

Again, very nice work. And thank-you for visiting my gallery. :)
